Seminar: Why do some individuals live longer? Identifying the sources of multi-scale heterogeneity in aging

On Monday, 20 October 2025, at 12:30 pm, Nicholas Stroustrup, PhD, Group Leader at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (Barcelona, Spain), will give a lecture at the Emanuel Merck Auditorium, Department of Pathobiochemistry and Genetics, Währinger Str. 10, 1090 Vienna. The host is Prof. Markus Hengstschläger.

Nicholas Stroustrup is Group Leader at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona. His research group investigates dynamical systems and the molecular genetics of aging.

Central research questions include:

  • How do multiple genes interact to drive the aging process?

  • Why do individuals vary so widely in lifespan?

  • How do molecular-level changes influence organismal processes and the timing of death?

  • Why is the heritability of lifespan so low?

In addition to fundamental research, the group is engaged in technology development projects, including synthetic biology approaches and advanced imaging technologies.
