ECNP Kongresses in Amsterdam vergeben wurde, erhalten.

"Neurotransmitter alterations in seasonal affective disorder"
Within this work, we demonstrated significant lower levels of hippocampal GABA levels in SAD patients compared to a age- and sex-matched healthy control cohort. All subjects were measured during the fall and winter season. Thus, this seems to be a common pattern across different types of depression, since similar findings were reported in MDD. While foremost changes in the serotonergic system were reported in SAD, also GABA, the main inhibitory neurotransmitter system of the brain tends to play a crucial role. Here, we highlight the strong interplay between serotonin and GABA in the pathophysiology of depression.
